CSIRO’s Northern Australia Sustainable Yields (NASY) project provides essential information on historical, recent and likely future water availability in northern Australia – a region recognised for high rainfall, massive runoff ,  relatively untouched landscapes,  limited development and low population density. The project arose from a COAG agreement in March 2008 for a comprehensive scientific assessment of water yields in all major river systems in Australia.

NASY will provide governments, industry and communities with information on the environmental, econmic and social aspects of sustainable management of water resources across the north.

CSIRO has produced a number of reports and summary documents on water in the three Drainage Divisions across northern Australia and the 13 regions within them.  The available report to date cover Northern, Western Cape, Mitchell, South East Gulf, Ord Bonaparte, Van Diemen regions. These reports can be accessed  through CSIRO’s Northern Australia Sustainable Yields website.
